Showa Day is a national holiday in Japan which is observed annually on 29 April – the birthday of Emperor Hirohito (Showa Emperor) who ruled Japan from 1926 until 1989. The purpose of this holiday is to honor the birthday of Emperor Hirohito as well as to commemorate the turbulence happening in Japan during his 63 years reign.
