Festivals are usually held by and for people, but some festivals in the world involve animals in the celebrations. The involvement of the animals is either to enliven the festivals or to honor a certain animal. Among some festivals involving animals in the world, three of them are very famous that people around the world head towards the country where the festivals are held. The three most famous festivals involving animals are presented as the following.

Running of the bulls is a dangerous festival happening in Pamplona, Spain, on July 6-14 every year. This festival obliged the entries – all of them are men above 18 years old – to run before the huddle of bulls in the small street. Since the first running of the bulls festival until the recent one, 19 people participated in the festival were dead. The danger awaiting doesn’t lessen the people’s interest to take part in this festival. It is proven by the great number of people, more than 300 men, enter the festival each year. They are eager to take part in the festival to prove their bravery and courage as the Spanish young men.

La Purcailhade

La Purcailhade is another weird festival in France which involves pig in celebrating the festival. Taking place every August on the second Sunday, La Purcailhade is held to honor the pig, the animal people usually ignore because of its dirtiness and bad smell. Some competitions are organized during La Purcailhade festival such as piglet race, pigs’ outfit, and sausage eating. On the contrary to the purpose of La Purcailhade festival which is to honor the pig, all dishes served in this festival are made of pork.

The last unique animal-involved in festival is the Monkey Buffet Festival in Thailand. People celebrate the festival by preparing food, fruits, and nuts outside a temple to be eaten by monkey. Monkey is believed as the ruler creature in Lopbury, the area where the festival is held, so people honor the monkey as they honor the other people. Every year, most villagers in Lopbury serve the various kinds of dishes, fruits and vegetables, even soft drinks for about 2,000 monkeys living around the temple.
