What is Holy Saturday?
Holy Saturday, also called Black Saturday or Easter Eve is a Christian festival celebrated on the day after Good Friday. It commemorates Jesus Christ’ lying on the tomb after his death and crucifixion on Good Friday. Holy Saturday marks the end of Holy Week when the Christians are ready to celebrate the Easter.
Some people refer to Holy Saturday as Easter Saturday since it is commemorated on the day before Easter. Yet, the term is incorrect because Easter Saturday actually belongs to Saturday after Easter, not Saturday before Easter which is a part of Holy Week.

Most Christians in many countries celebrate Holy Saturday on Saturday after Good Friday. Meanwhile, Good Friday is a movable holiday which is celebrated on Friday between the end of March and the end of April every year in Gregorian (Western) calendar.

Holy Saturday 2013 Celebration
Holy Saturday is a public holiday in Philippines, Macau, and some states of Australia such as Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia, Northern Territory, and Australian Capital Territory. In these places, most employees are granted day of with a regular pay during Holy Saturday.
There is no service held during the day of Holy Saturday. The Easter vigil (also called the Paschal Vigil or Great Vigil of Easter) service is attended by the Christians on the evening or night of Holy Saturday, yet the service belongs to Easter Sunday, since liturgically, many Christian traditional festivals begin from sunset.
During the Easter Vigil, the Christians also lit the blessed Easter candles to symbolize Jesus Christ as the Light of the World. The Easter candles are lighted along Paschal season until the Ascension Day of Jesus Christ. Some churches also administer Baptism during the Easter vigil service.
