Means “New Jewel” in Malay, JB as it more commonly known, is the capital city of Johor, in southern Malaysia, neighbouring with Singapore. For one reason or another, Johor Bahru has been in the shadows of its southern neighbour almost the entire time of its existence, and just like any other budding Asian countries, it has seen the ups and downs.

Over the years, the previously high crime rate has been given outmost consideration by the local government, making dramatic changes within the years. The “New Jewel” of southern Malaysia has improved by leaps and bounds; bringing to mind that these changes aren’t overnight. Reality sinks in and facts are laid straightforward: Johor Bahru is an important element when it comes to industrial, tourism and commercial aspects of southern Malaysia, although its population growth rate is among the highest in Southeast Asia. Another problem worthy to be taken note.
