Songkran – Thai New Year 2014
Thai New Year festival, or known as Songkran, is a Thailand festival widely celebrated by foreigner as water festival, where people splash each others with bucket of waters in the streets of Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, and other Thailand cities. What is less known is that the Thai New Year is also a very religious festival, where Thai people pay respect to Buddha by bathing Buddha statue.
When is Thai New Year 2014?
Thai New Year 2014 falls on Sunday, 13 April 2014. The celebration usually last for few days, with official public holidays last until Wednesday, 16 April 2014.
Thai New Year 2014 Celebrations
On Songkran Day, Thai people go to Buddhist temples and gently bath Buddha statues by pouring water on the statues. They will also give alms to Buddhist monks and listen to Dhamma talk from the monks.
