Background of United Arab Emirates’ National Day dates back to 2 December 1971 when all emirates united (except Ras Al Khaima, Qatar, and Bahrain) as a country with the suggestion of the emirates’ rulers including H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktou. Ras Al Khaima, Qatar, and Bahrain joined the United Arab Emirates later. The date of formal unification of United Arab Emirates is celebrated as the National Day.

People in United Arab Emirates celebrate their National Day by putting tiny United Arab Emirates’ flag drawings on their faces. They also decorate their cars with the colors of United Arab Emirates’ Flag and go around the town and greet each other happily while singing, reading poems, and waving national flags. Some people even go to a national holiday
National Day is a public holiday in the United Arab Emirates, thus, most businesses and government offices are close on this event. However, many schools in UAE usually conduct an event on United Arab Emirates’ National Day. In this event, the students usually wear traditional costumes of “thoub” and “khandora” and perform cultural dances.
