Dry Valley, The Largest Ice-Free Area in Antarctica

Unlike the other surface of Antarctica, Dry Valley is not covered by ice but an arid land full of gravels. One reasonable explanation about the absence of ice is that Dry Valley is sandwiched between two high mountains in Antarctic which block the path for the ice towards the valley. The other cause is the extreme speed of the wind blowing above Dry Valley, about 322 kilometers per hour, that sweeps the ice slipping of the mountain.
